Mpox Isn’t Over: What You Need to Know About the Latest Global Updates
Mpox Isn’t Over: What You Need to Know in 2025
Mpox (formerly known as monkeypox) is a viral infection that causes fever, swollen lymph nodes, and a painful rash. While U.S. cases dropped significantly after the 2022–2023 outbreak, mpox remains a global public health emergency, with continued transmission worldwide and low-level spread in the U.S.
As of mid-2025, the U.S. averages about 60 new mpox cases per week, primarily among unvaccinated or partially vaccinated gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men. The World Health Organization continues to classify mpox as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern, especially with over 79,000 cases and 578 deaths reported in 23 African countries this year alone.
Vaccination with the JYNNEOS vaccine is strongly encouraged for those at higher risk — including certain LGBTQ+ individuals, people recently diagnosed with STIs, sex workers, and healthcare or lab workers exposed to orthopoxviruses. Early symptom recognition and access to care remain key to prevention.
Mpox may no longer dominate headlines, but it hasn't disappeared. Staying informed and protected is essential in 2025.

SMART is an acronym that stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. Let's delve into why these goals are a game-changer for those seeking success in the coming year.
My Thanksgiving Day Eating Strategy
As someone whose favorite holiday is Thanksgiving, I used to think that I should just eat whatever and however much I wanted on Thanksgiving Day, because “it’s only one day, right?”. But then I had a “heart to heart” with myself, which I do quite often actually, and asked, “is it really only one day?” I realized that I was often continuing to eat the cornbread dressing, yams, honey baked ham, sweet potato pie, and red velvet cake for days after Thanksgiving ended. So, I opted to try a different approach.

Let's explore 4 intriguing alternatives.
